The HS900's high sensitivity 3MOS system has achieved 11.49 million effective motion image pixels (3.83 megapixels x 3). This new image sensor offers beautiful images with significantly better colour quality, detail and gradation than the 1MOS sensor system.

The large diameter F1.5 Leica Dicomar Lens, newly developed Crystal Engine Pro, and this high sensitivity sensors have improved the efficiency of light gathering, increased sensitivity, and reduced noise by one half to provide users with bright, low noise recording even in dim lighting.

The 12x optical zoom lens is further enhanced by Intelligent Resolution Technology in the Crystal Engine Pro image processing circuit, to produce the new 20x Intelligent Zoom. The new zoom achieves even greater image detail. And HS900 is also equipped with a 35mm wide angle lens that is ideal for many different shooting situations, such as self-portraits and group photos indoors, and landscape shots outdoors.

• AVCHD recording - employs the MPEG-4 AVC(H.264) codec for video compression, and Dolby Digital (AC-3) or Linear PCM for audio codec, twice as efficent as MPEG 2 and MPEG 4 and which allows recording onto SD/SDHC
• Pre Recording Function - missing that golden moment because you were all fingers and thumbs, not anymore. The camcorder continuously records a loop of three seconds of images into an internal buffer memory. When you actually press the record button, the three seconds immediately prior are automatically added at the beginning of the clip you record.
• Full HD Recording - compared to standard definition recording, most video cameras only have around 576 x 720 resolution, giving you around 400,000 pixels. Panasonic's eCams with 1920 x 1080, 2.11 million pixels,are able to offer around 6x more resolution! In fact, full-HD has the most pixels of any HD format, and thus can render images with unmatched detail and resolution.
• Optical Image Stabiliser - jitter from tired hands can cause blurring and shaky looking shots when filming. Panasonic eCams help solve this problem by employing an Optical Image Stabilizing (O.I.S.) system. By using built-in gyrosensors to detect even miniscule camera movements and then shifts a lens in the opposite direction to compensate. The system is completely optical, therefore it does not affect the image sensor (CCD) or image processing - so you get sharp, clear images without any deterioration.
• Intelligent Contrast Control - measures the ambient light intensity and adjusts the contrast as it changes. Providing control over a wider range of lighting conditions than previous functions, Intelligent Contrast Control helps prevent a washed-out look in bright parts of an image and black-outs in shadowy areas. You capture images with natural nuances and contrast.
